What is RWA Tokenization

RWA (Real World Asset) tokenization refers to the process of converting physical or real-world assets into digital tokens on a blockchain. Real-world assets, such as gold, real estate, art, and currencies, as well as financial assets, are divided into smaller tokens. It allows multiple investors to hold a small portion of an asset.  RWA tokenization makes trading simple by bridging traditional finance and decentralized finance. It allows the functional ownership and makes the global access of assets easier.

2. Custodial issues are a major risk with real world tokens as they do not guarantee legal ownership until unless the tokenization process complies with the local laws. This thing can create uncertainty among traders, and they may find it difficult to own or claim their asset.
3. Due to limited market data and varying asset quality, determining the real and fair value of RWA tokens can be a challenge.
4. With an RWA token, transparency is limited, which can cause mispricing that may lead to inflation.
5. As real world assets are traded on digital platforms, during low liquidity periods, they are more likely to be subject to price swings due to low trading volumes.
6. RWA tokens are built through smart contracts to automate the payment process so if smart contracts are developed poorly or have some coding error or any other vulnerability, they can cause loss or unauthorized transactions. So regular security audits are a must to minimize such risks.
7. There are also operational and custodian risks associated with RWA tokenization. To maintain the link between physical assets and digital representation and to hold and verify assets, these tokens rely on custodians or oracles. But if they face any operational issue, then the entire system may collapse. To mitigate such risks, RWA platforms should use decentralized oracle networks.
8. Many investors are not fully aware of how the RWA token works, so they have some speculations about it. Also, the profit from RWA tokenization is not always consistent and clear to investors, which makes investors apprehensive. As more investors are now taking part in RWA tokenization, maintaining transparency is important to gain investors’ trust and achieve sustainable growth.

RWA tokenization has the potential to revolutionize global investing and make real-world assets more easily accessible globally.  But it can only gain the trust of investors worldwide if transparency and risks related to it are addressed clearly. So the future of RWA tokenization depends on how well the gaps between the real world and digital assets are addressed.
